Description

Cette fiche d’activité porte sur la pièce de théâtre. Tu apprendras au sujet des caractéristiques de ce genre de texte. Tu liras ensuite trois différentes pièces, que tu analyseras en répondant à des questions.

  • Read a mystery novel, a play, and a variety of short stories and poems, and identify certain elements, the ways in which these elements are developed, and the literary devices used in the texts.

Déroulement et directives

Première étape — les caractéristiques d’une pièce de théâtre

Lis ce qui est écrit dans cette image pour connaître les caractéristiques d’une pièce de théâtre. Visionne ensuite cette vidéo, qui décrit plus en détail ces caractéristiques. Visionne également cette deuxième vidéo qui décrit les éléments de ce genre de texte. Finalement, visionne cette vidéo qui explique où retrouver la plupart des caractéristiques dans un texte. 

 

Deuxième étape — un exemple : School Daze

Visionne cette pièce de théâtre tout en lisant son texte. Observe le rapport entre le texte et la pièce. Visionne la vidéo au moins jusqu’à 16 minutes et 34 secondes et réponds par écrit aux questions suivantes : 

  1. On page 3 of the script, there are indications given by the writer of the play for costumes. Were these directions followed in the performance of the play? Explain.
  2. On the same page, there are indications given regarding the use of props. Were these indications followed? Explain.
  3. Again, on page 3 of the script, there are indications given regarding the lights. Were these followed in the performance? Explain. 
  4. Read the indications written for the Setting, on page 3 of the script. What are the differences between the indications and the setting you saw in the performance? Explain why you think these differences are there.
  5. Notice what is said regarding the grades in the Text Note, on page 3 of the script. What can you deduce regarding the grades at the school that performed the play you saw in the video?
  6. In your opinion, what are the advantages and the disadvantages of a play having so many characters?
  7. Watch the first three to five minutes of the play again and read the stage directions in the script, as you watch the play. How are the indications followed? Explain. 
  8. After seeing the play and reading part of the script, do you see how theater can bring life to a script? And can you imagine how one script could be interpreted in different ways?

 

Troisième étape — un court dialogue : The Bargain

Lis le dialogue de la courte pièce de théâtre sur cette page Web et réponds aux questions suivantes :

  1. Imagine a setting for this play and write a short paragraph describing the stage direction. 
  2. Imagine a different setting and write a different stage direction paragraph. 
  3. Write a different ending, after B says : “Oh, for Pete’s sake. Just give me the ten dollars.”
  4. In your opinion, what are the advantages and disadvantages of having so few characters in a play?
  5. What time period is this happening in?
  6. What costume indications would you give for this play?

 

Quatrième étape — un autre exemple : The Nose Competition

Télécharge le livre 25 Plays que l’on trouve sur ce site Web. Lis la pièce The Nose Competition (p. 185 à 192) et réponds aux questions suivantes :

  1. When does the story take place?
  2. Do the names of the characters fit well with the story? Explain. 
  3. Make a list of the props necessary for this play. 
  4. In your opinion, are there sufficient stage directions? Would you have more or less? Explain. 
  5. If you were to break this play in different scenes, how many would there be and where would each begin?

 

Cinquième étape — comparaison des trois pièces

Tu viens d’étudier trois différentes pièces de théâtre : School Daze, The Bargain et The Nose Competition. Compare ces trois pièces en répondant aux questions suivantes :

  1. How many characters are in each of these plays?
  2. Which of the three plays has the most action in it?
  3. In your opinion, which of the three plays is the funniest? What do you think makes it the funniest?
  4. In your opinion, which of these plays has the clearest stage directions?
  5. Which of the characters do you most relate to, in any of the plays? Explain why. 
  6. Which of the characters do you find most annoying? Explain why. 
  7. Which play would have the easiest setting to prepare, and which would have the most complex? Explain.
