Éducation en langue française en Ontario

Mastery of two languages

Students enrolled in French-language education live and learn in French while evolving in a world where English is spoken everywhere. Additionally, English is taught in elementary schools until grade twelve, and high school English courses are taught with the same rigour as in English-language schools.

A different mandate than the French Immersion program

French-language school

The French-language school is a fully complete school establishment and French-language learning environment operated by one of twelve French-language school boards: eight Catholic school boards and four public school boards, all publicly funded. All subjects are taught in French. English is taught from elementary school through grade twelve, and high school English courses are taught with the same rigour as in English-language schools.

French Immersion Program (French immersion program in an English-language school)

French Immersion is a program offered by an English school board in an English-language school. The program includes learning French as a second language and at least two other subjects taught in French. Daily routines are in English.

Excellent job prospects

Students who graduate from a French-language school develop proficiency in both of Canada’s official languages. This increases their chances of accessing the post-secondary program of their choice. They are also able to apply for admission to French-language, English-language or bilingual post-secondary institutions.

Their strong bilingualism and their belonging to a Francophone community, combined with their affiliation with the larger English-speaking community in the province, guarantee them a promising future and career opportunities in either official language, both within and outside the province. French-language education prepares students to evolve and succeed on the global stage.
